Huddersfield University

Recently named Times Higher Education University of the Year, The University of Huddersfield is in the top 10 in England for teaching excellence in England.

This excellence has also been applied to the learning environment at the university since 2008 over £73 million has been invested in new buildings and refurbishments improving facilities for over 24,000 students.

Many of the university buildings were once mills, dating back as far as 1760 when the town played a huge part in the Industrial Revolution.

Bushboard Washrooms have been used for washroom refurbishments throughout these buildings. Suzanne O’Loughlin, Architectural Design Officer at the university explains, ‘Having high-quality university washrooms was important to give students a good impression of the estate and its facilities.’

Bushboard’s Aero Pearl toilet cubicle range was chosen for the university. Aero is a modern cubicle range with iconic curved aluminium floor-mounted pilasters and matching headrail, blending strength and style, Aero is a perfect contrast to the 18th Century building, ‘I liked the Aero product with its fixed to the floor central pilaster. We needed something to be solid but which looked good. I felt that this feature was a good compromise.’

The university washrooms were pre-plumbed with Bushboard’s exclusive sanitaryware, SanCeram. SanCeram’s iconic square, semi-recessed Marden basins, urinals and Chartham WCs were used throughout.

Bushboard’s Aubergine and Welsh Slate colours were used for the toilet cubicles, ducting and semi-recessed vanity unit panels, vanity tops were chosen with Elysian solid surface.

Suzanne was very happy with the overall finish of the washrooms saying she would recommend Bushboard and use the products again in the future.
