A New Purpose-Built Cancer Unit for Mid Wales

Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth has unveiled its first purpose-built cancer unit, the £3 million Leri Cancer Day Unit. Funded primarily through 25 years of charitable donations from individuals, families, and community groups, the facility now provides patients across Mid Wales with vital treatment and care in a modern, supportive environment, close to home.

The refurbishment includes new treatment rooms, patient bathrooms, kitchen, staff offices, staff rooms, and changing facilities. Artwork and furniture contributed by the local Public Art Group were integrated into the design, creating a calming and welcoming space for patients throughout their cancer journey.

Healthcare IPS to Support Clinical and Patient Areas

Specified by the Hywel Dda University Health Board, Bushboard Washrooms supplied HBN-compliant healthcare IPS units for the refurbishment. The client selected a Pale Grey laminate from the standard range to achieve a neutral, calming aesthetic that complements the wider design scheme while maintaining durability and optimal hygiene in high-use areas.

The Traditional Boxed Out Unit panels and frame provide a smooth, easy-to-clean, flush-fitted system with aluminium corner extrusions that protect vulnerable edges. These seamless panel joins deliver long-term resilience, withstand frequent cleaning, and support infection control – all critical requirements in modern healthcare environments.

Ready Plumbed Modules for Faster Installation

Bushboard supplied Ready Plumbed Modules (RPM) to streamline the installation process. The healthcare IPS panels arrived on site with sanitaryware pre-fitted to panels and mounted to a rigid steel frame. The clinical wash hand basins were pre-plumbed and pressure tested in the factory prior to delivery, ensuring reliability and saving valuable time during the programme by reducing the need for multiple trades to be involved.
