Creating Open-Plan, Supervised School Washrooms

Kempston Academy sought a major upgrade to their secondary school toilets. Savoy Construction was the main contractor for the works, which included a complete reconfiguration of the male and female school toilet areas. This required demolition and significant structural works to create a more open-plan space that would be visually appealing. The open-plan nature of the washroom allowed the school to achieve suitable supervision throughout the day while ensuring student privacy.

Contractors Chose Bushboard for The Toilet Upgrade

The secondary school toilet refurbishment required new washroom products, and Christine Lemmon, Operations Manager at Savoy Construction, told us they chose Bushboard Washrooms to supply the washroom package due to previous positive experiences with our customer care, particularly the provision of an assigned project manager.

Durable School Toilet Cubicles Built for High Traffic

Kempston Academy wanted a robust toilet cubicle solution that would withstand the high daily traffic the school toilets receive. For this reason, we supplied our Tough Stuff toilet cubicles in Slate Grey and Lime Green Solid Grade Laminate. This range features wall fixing channels and pilasters fixed to the floor for total stability, paired with powder-coated aluminium hardware and through-fixed headrail for added strength.

Modern Solid Surface Washtroughs Designed for Secondary Schools

To modernise the secondary school washroom while maintaining the robust nature of the installation, Solid Surface washtroughs in Clay were chosen. Our Washtrough for Schools is designed with a reduced depth to facilitate handwashing for ease of reach for younger students. Manufactured from our Solid Surface composite, which is renowned for its exceptional durability, the trough is thermoformed by heating and moulding it into shape, resulting in minimal internal joints. This not only ensures structural integrity but also guarantees easy maintenance, which was a priority for the secondary school toilets.

Efficient Installation Over the Summer Holidays

The duct panels were supplied as our Ready Plumbed Modules, which are pre-plumbed and tested in our factory before delivery. This means that units arrived on-site fully assembled, with SanCeram sanitaryware and brassware pre-attached to panels on a galvanised steel frame. Christine found this method “worked well in regard to programme and final connections” especially as the secondary school toilet refurbishment was completed over the summer holidays, making timely completion crucial.

The school was “extremely happy with the final product, which gave the area a much-needed uplift and modernisation”. Christine told us she “could not fault the service received on this project, from discussion stage through to completion”. Savoy Construction continue to use Bushboard Washrooms as their main supplier for washroom projects.
